So in the past 19 years, I have been in International Admissions at Cleveland State University. First as a student worker, then clerical staff, and finally professional staff. As professional staff I was able to work my way up to the Manager of International Admission and Recruitment for the entire university. It was a pretty great gig that allowed my to travel all around the world.., Literally!!!
I have been to India, Turkey, and all of Asia (with the exception of a few countries). It was amazing to see the world and to see all the wonders of other cultures. I also enjoyed eating my way through all the countries, Street food in Asia is definitely not my favorite! My days were crazy filled with college visits to high schools or meet with families that are interested in CSU. The nights were even crazier with college fairs that would have hundreds of participants. By the end of the trip, you felt like you were on autopilot with talking about CSU and you would be lucky to remember what hotel room you were in that city. Those days have past but will always be a found memory in the back of my mind.
Currently, I am the Manager of International Student Services. My main role is to consult with current international students about immigration issues and compliance with government regulations. Its interesting work and even though I do not get to travel, I get to see many different students and still learn about their cultures. Traveling was great but now with a little baby and family I could not see leaving for the entire semester to travel the world.
